Diversity and Immigration in Canada: Dynamics and challenges

Guest Editor /

Aliaa Dakroury, School of Social Communication, Saint Paul University, Canada.

Canada welcomes new arrivals every year. There is great diversity linked to countries of origin and migration status. From economic immigration to family reunification, to international students and temporary workers, all these people arrive with different baggage, identities and cultures and which become more complex from the first contacts in their host countries.

This complexity manifests itself, among other aspects, in the multitude of actors who interact and who impact the attraction, reception, management and monitoring that takes place from the intention to immigrate, the choice of place of residence. reception and the path that is subsequently traced in the host country. The issue of diversity and immigration is addressed through several angles and on several levels: macro (immigration policies (by province and national), etc.), meso (public and non-governmental organizations, for example). example) and micro (through individual choices, family, professional paths, etc.).

In addition, several topics of interest are directly linked to the arrival of new people in a new country: work, housing, health and education, etc. and which are considered key aspects of the integration of newcomers.

We welcome contributions that address these and related questions about the politics of migration, culture and inclusion from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including media studies, rhetorical studies, history, cultural. And indigenous studies, history, women’s and gender studies, religious studies, postcolonial studies, and political theory. Special topics of interests include but are not limited to the following:

  • Education
  • Health
  • Canadian work experience
  • International students
  • Housing
  • The role of the media
  • The role of community and cultural organizations in the integration of newcomers: impacts, challenges and advantages.
